Illuminating York – Museum Gardens Light Show 2025
Experience the 2025 York Museum Gardens Light Show, where historic architecture meets vibrant projection art. Captured by CHAZ Media, these photos showcase the city’s illuminated heritage in vivid colour and atmosphere.
As the evenings grow darker, York Museum Gardens transforms into a glowing canvas of history and colour for the 2025 Light Show. A two week night time installation blending projection mapping, atmospheric lighting, and historic architecture.
These photographs capture the essence and emotion of the event: the ancient stone walls and ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey brought to life through vivid projection art, deep blues and magentas washing over the trees, and sweeping beams of light cutting through the night sky, leaving some York residents questioning UFOs on local Facebook Groups - LOL !
The event pays homage to York’s layered history, weaving together light, sound, and artistry to create a multi sensory experience across the Gardens. Sculptural figures, including illuminated wire knights, and large scale floral patterns projected across centuries old walls, evoke the city’s medieval spirit while celebrating modern creativity.
The timing and placement of each light piece are meticulously planned, with reflections in puddles and the surrounding greenery adding to the dreamlike quality of the night. It’s a true testament to York’s artistic innovation and respect for its heritage.
